A month ago the United Nations issued a new 1,500-page report taking an exhaustive look at the decline in biodiversity across the globe. According to the New York Times, “we are transforming Earth’s natural landscapes so dramatically that as many as one million plant and animal species are now at risk of extinction”. Global warming has become a major driver of wildlife decline and when combined with the other ways humans are damaging the environment, we are now pushing a growing number of species closer to extinction.
It is no secret secret that our well-being is intertwined with the fate of other species, which raises a million questions for me: What am I doing to make the world a better place? Am I doing what I can do? Am I part of the problem or am I part of the solution? How much can I do? Does it even matter if I do something? Truth is, I still don’t have any of the answers, but all I know is that I want to be part of the solution.
How? Start your own army of 1. Thats all it takes. You don’t need a law passed by congress to do something. Start small. Small goes a long way. Give up bottled water. Reduce your waste. Conserve energy. Conserve water. Green your personal care. No fast fashion. Choose one that speaks to you, and run with it. How much can you do? There is no limit. Our time has come. I want you to know that you CAN make a difference. Together we'll go far, join me! Are you ready to do your part?
