How I Prep My Skin Before Glam

GRWM: The glam prep edition!

When I have a special event or photo shoot, I start my skin and body prep the day before so I’m ready to glow. I did this routine before my Miami magazine Women of Style shoot, and I wanted to share it with you. Try it before your next special event—or anytime you want to feel energized, refreshed and naturally glam!

The Day Before: Body Prep

Twenty-four hours before an event or shoot, I perform my complete lymphatic drainage massage ritual to detox, drain and sculpt. If I’m at home, I use our original The Body Tool for my ritual. If I’m traveling, I always have The Body Sculptor in my carry-on. It’s my secret to feeling confident in any fit!

Lymphatic Drainage Massage Ritual

First, I apply Flow + Glow Body Oil to hydrate my skin and help my tool glide easily. Then I perform my ritual, using my tool to work in long smooth strokes over my arms, legs and abdominal area. This ritual helps move along lymph fluid, which reduces the look of bloating—a must for photo shoots! It also boosts my energy, supports a healthy immune system, and helps me feel more connected and centered.

The full ritual takes less than 10 minutes and you can find detailed steps here. This technique helps make sure you’re moving lymph fluid correctly, toward your lymph nodes, so it can be detoxed and drained. You’ll see a more sculpted toned effect instantly, and when you perform this ritual consistently, that’s when you’ll notice real improvement in your overall wellness.

The Day Of: Skin Prep

On the day of an event or shoot, I focus on giving my skin a glow from the inside-out. My ritual includes face and body dry brushing, gua sha and of course de la heart natural skincare to add hydration and glow. These rituals also help to move along lymph fluid, which supports your lymphatic drainage massage practice and gives your face and body an even more sculpted look.

Body Dry Brushing

Before I take a shower, I grab The Body Brush and perform my dry brushing ritual. Make sure your skin is completely dry and glide your brush in long, smooth strokes over your arms, legs and abdominal area. The friction of the brush against your skin sweeps away dead skin cells and reveals fresh, glowing skin underneath.

Make sure to work toward your lymph nodes, just like you did for your lymphatic drainage massage, so you’re moving along stagnant fluid. A lot of people don’t realize this, but dry brushing also helps to detox and drain—so it’s the ideal ritual to perform the day of a special event.

Facial Dry Brushing

When you’re finished dry brushing your body, move on to your face. The Facial Dry Brush has extra gentle bristles that exfoliate your skin and smooth out any flaky patches, so your makeup will look flawless. Don’t skip your neck and décolleté—especially if your special-occasion fit has a low neckline. After you’re finished dry brushing your face and body, jump in the shower to rinse away any dead skin.

Gua Sha

Next up it’s time to do a little sculpting and contouring. Anytime I have an event, I use my Stainless Steel Gua Sha to perform a quick and easy facial massage. This reduces the looks of undereye puffiness and gives my cheekbones and jawline a more sculpted look. It’s the secret to a naturally snatched jawline ASAP. Always start by applying Organic Jojoba Oil to help your tool glide—you never want to tug on delicate facial skin—and add more as needed during your ritual.

Skincare

Now that you’ve exfoliated and sculpted, it’s time to get glowing. Mist on Vibrant Rose Water Mist and reapply Organic Jojoba Oil to prep your skin. Let it soak in for a few minutes, then you’re ready for makeup. For body, apply Golden Body Oil to give your arms, legs and décolleté a gorgeous glow. One shoot days, my makeup artist always applies Cacay Whipped Body Butter for extra hydration and radiance. Steal that trick and layer it over your body for the ultimate glow!
