Starting Your Wellness Journey? Consistency is Key.

These days, so much of life is about instant results or racing toward our goals…and the result is that we often suffer fatigue or burnout along the way. But when it comes to self-care, it’s completely different. Self-care isn’t a race. It’s all about the journey, not the destination. I like to say that wellness is a path you have to travel consistently, every day. And hey, sometimes you get a little off-course, and that’s okay too. We’re only human! Check out these tips to help you start (and stay!) on your self-care journey:

Make It A Ritual
I always say when you’re lacking motivation, habit will take you there. If you pick a dedicated time for your self-care ritual, you’ll be more likely to stick to it. You can even set a daily reminder in your calendar—just like you do for work meetings or the kids’ playdates. For me personally, I always do my dry brushing ritual before my morning shower, and then I follow with my lymphatic drainage massage.

Think Of It As A Gift
If the thought of taking time for a self-care ritual stresses you out, try to flip the script! Instead of thinking “this is just another thing on my to-do list,” tell yourself “this is a gift I’m giving myself so I can stay healthy and live life to the fullest.” It’s a simple mindset switch that reminds you to honor yourself and care for your mind and body.

Play The Long Game
This is the part where we say it’s not about instant results or attention-getting Before and After shots. A true self-care journey works from the inside out to transform your body and mind. For example, a regular lymphatic drainage massage practice helps to reduce inflammation, promote a healthy immune system, and release tension in your fascia (which can lead to smoother-looking skin). These benefits build over time, so it’s crucial to commit to a regular practice.

Forgive Yourself
Life happens! The kids get sick, you go on vacation, and sometimes we let our self-care rituals slip. But you know what, that’s okay! Like I said, wellness is a journey and there will be bumps along the road. Make a fresh start and pick up where you left off, and all will be well.
